Frequently Asked Question

Phone is showing Greeting message on the display instead of the display name
Last Updated 2 years ago

Display Name setting in WebUI found under Primary Register:

The display name is used for caller-id (although the PBXintercepts and replaces this usually). The term 'display' can be confusing because it seems to indicate the physical display of the phone; however, it is actually controls a field in the SIP packets that identifies the phone's preferred display name, and usually matches the extension:

When Display name is empty:

Cetis 3.x phones also use it as a display on the physical screen since it makes intuitive sense for it to be so. The screen space on the 3300IP is very limited and cannot display both display name and a greeting message on the physical screen display. The greeting message takes precedence over the display on the physical screen display when both are used, but the display name will still be placed in SIP messages.

Note: This has been written for 3.x phones, but there is some display name functionality in 1.x and 2.x phones. However, these versions may not use the display name for the physical display.
